It's like gasoline on a flame-
I'm doing a week-long lecture on North Carolina pottery and the origins of the face jug, starting later today. Oh, and I'm giving my lecture to 4th graders who will be making their own face jug in the coming weeks. I'm just sick enough to be excited about it too.
I'll be in later this week and catch up with everyone on my blogroll. Hope everybody had a great weekend!

Addendum: I guess I should have clarified - I'm giving a lecture on NC pottery and using pieces of my collection (and Bea's) to illustrate. I did not make these - I wish I did, but who has the space or money to build a groundhog kiln, much less burn one? Nope, they're just a part of my collection!

Wow! Are those yours?!
If so, DAMN. I'm impressed. And if not, well, you have a great little collection there...
Pottery and me never got along. I'm not much of a molder and shaper.
But, girlfriend, your shit looks very cool.
Hope all went well . . .
I didn't know you were a "pottery person" - how did I miss that?
Have a wonderful week with those kids, and your pottery's beautiful!
Look at you all expert-like!
I also recently started collecting pottery. I've got some that I like to look at and some that I like to use, like my big soup bowl/coffee mug from which I am eating homemade corn shrimp chowder right now.
I'll have to post a pic for you! :)
GORGEOUS.
A trip to NE Indiana? Please? I could very easily arrange several presentations to 4th and 5th graders as well as middle schoolers and possibly even a high school class or two! Plus I would provide delicious home-cooked meals complete with cheesecake! This is beautiful stuff!
Who knew NC pottery had a history? Are face jugs those things you get in pubs with a fat man on the front? Toby jugs we used to call them. Am I making a complete fool of myself yet?
Ahhhh, ain't it nice to know you are single handedly responsible for creating another generation of pottery junkies? Ol Bill would be so proud.:)
Well done!
I am very good at BREAKING pottery. I admire it, i buy it, and then inevitably, I break it. dammit.
What is a face jug?!?!?
Cool! Good luck with the 10 year olds!
They are beautiful!
I'm also wishing you luck with the young ones. Have lots of fun, I'm sure they will.
did you make those? they are beautiful.
Folks need to understand though that you gals live in a potter's Mecca. Both you and Bea live a stone's throw away from Sanford and Seagrove. That would make an excellent blog post! BTW, there's a good chance I'll be applying to the Sanford Pottery Festival in May. Plus my application for Artsplosure is on my desk.
I'm looking forward to more posts from you. I hope you enjoy your pottery lecture.
How about a class on making pottery for the 30+ crowd(I'm not ready to say 38+ yet). Wine might add a whole new dimension!
go see Ben and Bennie- they took Ben to the hospital. THought you'd want to know......
